Shatemuc Chapter, NSDAR
Stony Point, NY
Organized on October 2, 1925, Shatemuc Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, is located in Stony Point, New York, an historic Revolutionary War area on the Hudson River. Our chapter gets its name from the Native American word for "river that flows both ways," meaning the Hudson River. As Rockland County's only DAR chapter, we've grown to a membership of more than 70 women.
Local important historic sites include the Twin Forts of Stony Point and Fort Montgomery, and George Washington's headquarters at the DeWindt House in Tappan. In Tappan, Washington met with Sir Guy Carleton to complete arrangements for the British to leave New York. It is also the site where the spy Major John Andre was held prisoner as he waited for his gallows to be built. |
